Kid Talk Tuesday: Merry Christmas from Tyndale Kids

Today’s post is by publishing coordinator Linda MacKillop.

Welcome to this season of Advent. So many of our holiday memories are filled with soft lighting enhanced by candle or fireplace flames, window lights, soft voices recalling the old, old story or memories of Christmas’ past and loved ones gone while a bed of hushed and soft snow falls outside our windows.
A couple of our kid’s team members have treasured holiday memories that allow them to recall with their families the meaning of Christmas. They wanted to share with you how they bring the old story to the next generation. Kids Team Acquisitions Director, Linda Howard, throws a birthday party for Jesus on Christmas Eve every year, baking a cake, decorating it with candles, and singing Happy Birthday to Jesus for her grandkids to enjoy as they learn why we celebrate Christmas. Then they read the Christmas story from the Bible, building memories and traditions to focus them on Christ for a lifetime.
As a child, Senior Editor Stephanie Rische’s family set up the Nativity scene each Christmas, carefully setting out the shepherds, the wise men, the animals, and Mary and Joseph. But the manger was empty . . . until Christmas morning when their mother would wrap the Baby Jesus figurine, which would be the first gift they would open on Christmas Day. Their tradition served as a powerful reminder that the Messiah we all await had arrived and was, indeed, the greatest gift of all.
Advent is a time of waiting, a time for the “coming” of God to earth in the humble setting of a manger where his parents laid his head on a soft bed of hay while a harshness surrounded his birth. As we watch world news and events unfold in the traditionally hard way with noise and clatter, fear and violence, a softness descends in our hearts if we allow ourselves and our children the unrushed moments to quiet ourselves and remember the reason we celebrate.
Here at Tyndale, we offer a blessing over you and your family during this lovely season. No matter what’s been happening in your life over the past days, months or year, may the God of peace bring a hush to the rush of your life, cushioning you from all the world’s hard edges. May you rest with all your weariness and troubles in His cushioned arms, or celebrate with gladness all He has done for you in recent days. May the old, old story arrive in your ears and soul with a fresh voice and a fresh telling that fills you up for the rest of the coming year with hope and peace. A reminder. A remembrance.
As always, we are here to soften the hard lines in your life by providing books and resources and stories to quiet your soul. A Merry Christmas to all!

Coloring is NOT Just for Kids!

Today’s post is a guest post by Amie Carlson, product & marketing manager.

Recently, while on a break from college, my 19-year-old daughter, Molly, and her best friend (and roommate) Alexa came to my office to help me organize my overflowing bookshelves. When they had finished, they asked if they could take home some of our Happy Day coloring books. I let them choose a stack of them as a thank you and forgot all about it.

Then one day after they had returned to college, I came home to find an envelope in the mailbox containing this picture.

It turns out, the girls had spent an afternoon in their dorm room going through all of the coloring books and choosing pictures that reminded them of their friends. They sent them all personalized pictures in the mail at their various colleges . . . which resulted in fun tweets of joy from each girl as she received her picture in the mailbox.

I never would have thought to send coloring books in a care package to my college student, but now I think it’s a great way to let them revisit their childhood and de-stress from the pressures of the real world. Why not pick up some of our Happy Day coloring books for your care package today? Click here to view our collection of coloring books!
